Ask for an explanation if you dont understand whats being said

Ask for an explanation if you dont understand whats being said. Whether its a diagnosis of a condition, a suggestion of a treatment or an intervention being discussed. You are well within your rights to ask for an in depth explanation including meaning/risks/prognosis/outcomes etc at the time of your consultation.
Sometimes a healthcare professional may feel they've explained something but all too often parents are left feeling even more confused!
If I could count the number of times I've explained something (or so I thought) and asked "do you understand" only to hear "no"
But if I hadn't asked if they understood, some would just leave without asking me to make it clearer.
Sometimes clinics are busy and you may feel that things are too rushed to gain a proper explanation. You can still ask for some literature or to be pointed in the direction of a reliable source on the internet to gain more information.
This is also the case for abbreviations and terms you may see written down on ultrasound reports and other documentation. Ask your care provider to explain what they've written if you aren't sure
