Creating the right environment in labour is key for the natural release of hormones. . Oxytocin: Promotes love, bonding and uterine contractions. Oxytocin is responsible for the ejection of milk when breastfeeding. . Melatonin: Released in dark, quiet settings. Inhitibed by noise and disruption. Promotes the production of oxytocin. . Endorphins: Nature natural pain relief. Stimulation by light touch and massage. Promoted by by laughter, love and oxytocin. . The hormone not so welcome in labour is Adrenaline the stress hormone. Adrenaline increases your breathing and heart rate. It is released in fearful situations and is also called the flight or fight hormone. Too much adrenaline can slow labour as it blocks oxytocin, inhibiting contractions. . . . . . . . . #pregnancy #birth #hormones #hypnobirthing #doula #midwifery #midwives #studentmidwife #studentmidwives #obstetrics #gynaecology #fertility #labour #childbirth #midwife #waterbirth #homebirth #stress #calm #meditation #yoga #love #beautiful #womanhood #reproduction
