I know a lot, but I don't know it all

I know a lot, but I don't know it all.
I'm pretty educated and experienced on pregnancy, birth and parenting in general, but I don't neccessarily know what's best for every individual or family.
As healthcare professionals, humility is important as it ensures we evaluate our self importance appropriately.
Just because I've studied for years at University to become a midwife doesn't mean I am more qualified to make decisions for you than you. It means that I should be able to relay knowledge about Anatomy and physiology to you, and offer hints, tips and research based evidence to support you in making the decision that you feel is best.
Even if that is going against my suggestions.
Healthcare professionals are also humans and humans make mistakes. They may say things on social media that are factually incorrect, outdated or inadvertently offensive. If that happens, it's ok to put hands up and apologise without fear of 'losing face'
Identifying weaknesses and correcting mistakes makes us stronger, more competent and trustworthy professionals, and creates better relationships with the people we care for. As does listening to a person and their wishes and wants, and remembering that in a lot of cases, we may not have experienced what our clients/patients are going through.
Being humble and having humility is not weak, its a strength that would make the world a better place if more people had it.
That is all 💜
