Mothers and babies have a physiologic need to be together at the moment of birth and during the hours and days that follow. It's really important to keep mothers and babies together after the birth. Evidence supports immediate, uninterrupted skin-to-skin care after vaginal birth and during and after caesarean surgery for all stable mothers and babies, regardless of how baby will be fed. . When babies are born, providing there are no medical reasons to separate them from their mothers, routine procedures like weighing and examinations can wait until mum and baby have had that special and essential bonding time. . Skin-to-skin contact (not illustrated) provides real health benefits. It reduces both mum and baby’s stress levels, helps regulates the baby’s body temperature, promotes oxytocin production and slows bleeding in mum as a result. It also increases chances of successful breastfeeding. . . . . . . . #skintoskin #goldenhour #bonding #newbaby #newmom #oxytocin #love #hormones #midwifery #midwife #midwifemarley #birth
