When having your first baby, it's important to equip yourself with as much knowledge as possible surrounding pregnancy, birth, feeding and baby care. This can be done via books, antenatal classes and credible internet sources (such as the NHS website) . Learning simple things such as the importance of baby movements in the womb or birthing positions to promote an easier birth, can be so beneficial to you and your baby and prevent adverse outcomes. . Various studies have shown that women who attended antenatal classes were more likely to avoid interventions during labour, less likely to have multiple admissions during early labour, more likely to seek help when there was an anomoly in the pregnancy, more likely to breastfeed and more likely to be happy with their experience. Women and their partners are also less likely to have unrealistic expectations of life with a new baby as they understand the fourth trimester, cluster feeding etc. This perhaps might also have a part to play in reducing the risk of developing postnatal depression but not enough research has been done. . . . . . . . . . . educate #birth #education #birthclass #birthed #antenatal #care #teach #teacher #research #childbirth #postpartum #postnatal #newparents #parents #midwife #midwifery #pregnancywork
