When your child stops breastfeeding, you may find that some milk leaks from your breasts during the initial weeks. The leaking should subside after a month or so but you may be able to express the odd drop of milk some months or even years after stopping breastfeeding!

If its been a long time since weaning and you suddenly start leaking milk, your breasts become full or tender, particularly if the volume has increased a lot (and you're not pregnant again), it may be something called galactorrhoea (excessive milk production).

Galactorrhoea in the absence of recent pregnancy can be caused by an underlying condition so it's worth visiting your doctor to discuss.

On a side note, if you experience lumps that don't go away through massage or expressing during breastfeeding or after, or get bigger, should always be brought to the attention of your care provider. Often lumps are simply clogged milk ducts but should be mentioned.
