A night of dance! It's world prematurity day and last night I was invited to the most amazing charity gala dinner with super talented ballet dancers, hosted by medical research charity @bornecharity in London with @thehonestmidwife @tinukeawe and @msclo_ of @fivexmore_

In the UK, 1 in 13 of all babies are born prematurely. Despite being the single biggest cause of neonatal death in the UK, premature birth remains an underfunded and overlooked area of research. In fact, there have been no new treatments introduced in the last fifty years.

Of the premature babies that survive, many face a lifetime of chronic illness and disability. Parents are more likely to suffer postnatal depression, and often report feelings of guilt and isolation.

Borne was set up by Professor Mark Johnson, and funds pioneering research to advance knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth, and improve the lives of mothers and babies.
