Does your pelvis type affect your birth?

By Marley Henry · 22 June 2020

Does your pelvis type affect your birth? There are 4 general pelvis types according to Caldwell-Moloy. "Caldwell-Moloy (1933) taught that nearly half of Caucasian women have a Gynecoid pelvis (rounder at the inlet, but wider side-to-side and a little less room front-to-back) while nearly half of women of African descent are said to have an Anthropoid pelvis (oval at the inlet, roomiest front-to-back of all pelvic types). Today there is new evidence that most people share a mix of types." - Spinning Babies It's important to remember that the pelvis isn't 'fixed' during birth. The sympahsis pubis is the cartilage type joint holding the front of the pelvis together. During pregnancy it softens to allow flexibility during birth hence why movement and change of positions can really help the labour and birth process. There is a great article on the @spinningbabies website about the types of pelvis and birth.
