Ever wondered what the G's and P's mean in your maternity notes?

Ever wondered what the G's and P's mean in your maternity notes?
(Read to the end for a quick question to solve)
Gravida is the number of pregnancies you've had and parity is the number of pregnancies you have carried past 24 weeks. This cut off varies and in the US I believe its 20 weeks.
The word parity in the maternity world is often confused with how many children you have but thats not the case.
When recording twin births, the parity = 1. Its important as it gives us an idea of how many times someone has gone through labour and birth. If you've previously had quadruplets over 24 weeks and no other pregnancies, you'd be recorded as G1, P1. Someone who also has 4 children but through 4 different pregnancies, would be recorded as g4, p4.
All pregnancies, whether they are miscarriages, terminations, live births or stillbirths are recorded so that your care provider can give you appropriate care.
Can you write this lady's gravidity and parity in the comments? 👇🏽
She had a miscarriage at 6 weeks, another at 8 weeks, a set of twins at 36 weeks, a baby at 41 weeks and she's currently pregnant. Let's see if you can work it out before checking the comments section!
