Following on from my recent IGTV post demonstrating contractions and dilatation, I thought I would repost this as I mentioned it! ........
I have just come across this amazingly creative lady @obstetriciaviva and have edited the image slightly to translate to English. . "The cervix varies in size and shape, from one woman to another. . In image 1️⃣ The external cervical orifice resembles a small circular opening in the center of the cervix, characteristic of a cervix of a nulliparous woman (who never gave birth vaginally) . . In image 2️⃣ In women who have already given birth, it is bulky and the external cervical orifice appears as a wide, half-open and transverse slit." It's quite common for a woman who has given birth before to have a cervix that always appears to be slightly dilated. It's what we call a 'multips os' cool huh?!
- if a cervix dilates during labour and then ends up with a c-srction, she may still have a 'multiparous cervix
