Hi, I'm Marley 👋🏽

Hi, I'm Marley 👋🏽 Most of the posts on this page are educational, but as I've had an influx of new followers lately, let me tell you a bit more about me.

I live near London in the UK with my partner and 5 children. I've been a midwife since 2009 and have worked in a variety of environments; homes, birth centres, hospitals and community clinics.

As you can probably tell, I LOVE to educate, primarily to help people make informed decisions surrounding their care.

I still work privately as a midwife, with a small caseload in and around London, and am currently training as a tongue tie specialist 😊

As a youngster, I experienced a lot of racism. Name calling mainly, due to the fact that I am Black/White mixed race. The absence of diversity and representation around me made things extremely difficult. I remember on numerous occasions saying to my mum that I wanted blue eyes and straight blonde hair so that I would 'fit in'.

As I grew, the lack of representation & inclusion seemed to spring into all areas of my life so when I started educating on here, I decided to make sure that I would change the narrative. I made sure you would see images and illustrations of mums, dads and babies that represent everyone. That you would see a variety of complexions and hair textures. People of colour and ethnic minorities have been underrepresented in healthcare for too long, ironic given the clear disparities in health outcomes across the board!

Some may say 'what's the big deal Marley?' Or 'does it really matter?', but if you're someone who thinks that way, you've probably never been affected by prejudice. I'm also saying this as I have recently deleted and blocked some racist comments from my DM's.

Aside from my midwifery passions, I am a busy & exhausted (but happy) mum who never has enough hours in the day! Trying to find some more hours from somewhere though, lots of work/projects coming up!
