I posted this picture a few hours ago but it was removed by instagram, perhaps because someone reported it as it showed a baby's bum. If you want to view the original image, check it out on @birthing_you

Blue - grey spots (previously referred to as Mongolian spots)

All of my babies have had these. Luckily my mum told me of them when I had my first son as she had witnessed them when I was born, even though other people thought they were bruises!

💡Have you ever wondered what those dark gray/bluish/black spots that appear on some babies are?

💡Blue - Grey spots are harmless, pigmented birth marks that typically fade within 1-2 years of life. Sometimes they remain for a lot longer than this.

They are more common in babies with more melanin in their skin, for example Babies from Black, Asian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean & mixed heritage backgrounds are more likely to have them. Some are big, some are small and they are commonly found on the back, buttocks and legs.

📢THESE ARE NOT BRUISES! I repeat THESE 👏 ARE👏 NOT 👏BRUISES. The spots are simply the result of pigment not reaching the surface of the skin.

Raise you hand if you've seen these spots on a baby before 🙋‍♀️ .. 📷 : @lifeandlens_photography
