If you are enjoying a low risk pregnancy, waterbirth might be an option to consider. Some women love it and others don't but it's certainly a gentle way for baby to enter the world! . Some questions have arisen regarding perineal tears and water birth. I heard a doctor talk recently about her concern over waterbirth due to having a higher risk of perineal tearing so I wanted to clear it up with the evidence! . Some studies suggest that serious tears ie 3rd and 4th degree may be significantly REDUCED by having a waterbirth but smaller, less significant tears (1st/2nd degree) might be more COMMON. The reduction in serious tears may be due to the fact that giving birth in the pool usually enables a better birthing position and also the warm water helps relax the perineum. . The potential increase in minor tears may be due to the reduction in visibility for the midwife and being totally hands off, reducing her ability to provide perineal support if indicated. Have you had a water birth or are you considering one? . . . . . . . . . . . #waterbirth #homebirth #naturalbirth #birth #doula #birthwithoutfear #hypnobirthing #birthphotography #empoweredbirth #pregnancy #birthisbeautiful #birthbecomesher #birthphotographer #midwife #childbirth #positivebirth #stopcensoringmotherhood #baby #breastfeeding #birthdoula #postpartum #schwanger #laboranddelivery #geburt #birthphotogs #hausgeburt #wassergeburt #motherhood #dearphotographer #bhfyp
