Increasing milk supply

By Marley Henry · 22 February 2021

Increasing milk supply. If you ever feel like your breastmilk supply is dwindling, there are some things you can try to increase it.

My number one favourites are increasing water intake to at least 3L per day and power pumping/increased feeds.

Power pumping tricks your body into thinking your baby is going through a growth spurt by mimicking cluster freding and should therefore act as a trigger to produce more milk.

To power pump you need to find a suitable hour in the day to express milk with an electric or hand held pump, on and off over the course of the hour in 10 minute bursts as follows:

Pump for 10 mins Rest for 10 mins and so on until the hour is up.

Remember that cluster feeding alone isn't neccesarily a sign of a low milk supply, its usually as a result of your baby feeding more to make more milk due to them having a growth spurt!

What did you find worked for you to increase supply?
