It's common to experience and increase in vaginal discharge during pregnancy but if the discharge is green and/or offensive smelling, it could indicate an infection. Any appearance of blood stained discharge should also be investigated.

When your membranes rupture (waters break) you should pay attention to the colour - Remember not everyones water break before or during labour however, some babies are born in the bag! This fluid is a lot more watery than your typical vaginal discharge. It may gush or trickle (see one of my reels & IGTV video for more on this). . Amniotic fluid in the third trimester is largely made up of the baby's urine so it should really be clear or slightly yellow in colour. Occasionally it may be a tinge pink if its mixed with a 'bloody show' from the cervix. . If the waters are looking any shade of green or even brown on the pad, this could mean there is meconium present- baby's first bowel movement. If you notice this, inform your care provider straight away. Meconium in the water doesn't always indicate or mean there will be a problem but it's best to let your care provider know.
