Lots of women wonder whether they can eat and drink in labour

By Marley Henry · 30 April 2019

Lots of women wonder whether they can eat and drink in labour. The National institute for clinical excellence (NICE) recommends that all women should be able to drink in labour. Isotonic drinks may be more beneficial than water for energy. If established/active labour is progressing well and both you and your baby are well, light snacks may also help with energy for those final stages of labour! If however, you require opiates (which can cause nausea & vomiting), need an epidural or any other risk factors develop, you may be advised to only have sips of water only. You may also be offered an antacid tablet to reduce acid in your stomach. This is a precaution increase you need an emergency C-section. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #birth #midwifery #food #eating #labour #laboranddelivery #labor #midwife #fitness #postpartum #pregnancyfitness #pregnancy #epidural #pregnantfit #pelvicfloor #studentmidwife #fourthrimester #workout #diet #postnatal #pregnancyhealth #csection #caesarean #babybump #babybody #postpartumfitness #naturalbirth #hospitalbirth
