Noticed a line appear down the front of your bump?

By Marley Henry · 12 April 2020

Noticed a line appear down the front of your bump? It's probably the linea nigra. The linea nigra is a dark vertical line that appears on the belly during pregnancy. It can extend from the top of the belly to the pubic area, running through the centre of the belly button, or the line can be shorter. The line is isually around 1cm in width. Increased hormones present during pregnancy stimulate increased pigment production, causing this area to darken. You may notice the areola around your nipples darkens too! It is more noticeable in women of colour. After the baby is born, the line of linea nigra typically fades. Depending on your complexion and skin type, this may take up to a year after pregnancy! . . . . . . #pregnancy #mom #midwifemarley #birthprep #pregnancyguidelines #info #pregnant #pregnancyfacts
