Paced bottle feeding

By Marley Henry · 1 March 2024

Paced bottle feeding! You can do this regardless of whether the milk is breast or formula, it will still be beneficial.

Controlling the flow of milk from a bottle ⁣⁣can help your baby in several ways: ⁣⁣ The milk doesn't flow so fast so they are less likely to gulp down air causing wind.

Baby can self regulate the amount they swallow. They can pause inbetween sucks rather than being forced to swallow large amounts through gravity. This can help prevent childhood obesity as their brains are given time to process when they are full, preventing over eating.

A newborn is more able to coordinate their suckle, swallow, breathing better.

Avoid laying them on their backs, side lying when bottle feeding is better but upright is best. ⁣⁣ If you have a baby that is particularly windy, try burping them once or twice through a feed.
