Thinking about my previous post, sometimes it's hard getting it right for everyone

Thinking about my previous post, sometimes it's hard getting it right for everyone. I feel that people have a right to be informed but some prefer not to be (and thats ok)

On one hand, as a midwife, I want to educate about pregnancy, giving birth and how life may look after having a baby. On the other hand, I also know that being candid can be shocking and scary to some people.

I want to support people with knowledge to be able to work towards having a straight forward birth, but also educate them about the 'not so straightforward' stuff that sometimes happens.

I feel that knowledge is power and enables easier conversations between women and their care providers when they know what is being discussed. But I also acknowledge that some don't want to know unless they are in that moment of needing to know.

Perhaps though, there's a fine line between too much and too little info. Perhaps being too candid can create fear and tension. Perhaps not being candid with someone who is having a baby can contribute to trauma and disbelief afterwards. Who knows...

Id love to hear your thoughts. What do you think, would you prefer to know all there is to know or would rather not?

(Tagging @thebirthworkerco whose slogan I pinched for the bag 😁 Birthwork is most definitely in my DNA!)
