When are you likely to go into labour?

By Marley Henry · 10 May 2019

When are you likely to go into labour? Various studies have been conducted over the years to see what gestation is the most popular for birth! One particular study done in the UK collected data from over 1000 women who laboured spontaneously. It showed that the most popular times to go into labour is anywhere from 39 weeks to 40 weeks 6 days. Only 6 women in every 100 will go into labour at 37 weeks which just goes to show that most babies need cooking a little longer! . Gestation length varies greatly on your health and ethnicity. The majority of the women in this particular study would have been caucasian. Women from south Asia for example generally have a slightly shorter gestation period on average. . I'm sure you've heard people say "I think I will have this baby early as I'm huge!" Having a big belly or big baby doesnt necessarily mean you will go into labour early. . You'll be pleased to know that on the other hand, only a small percentage of women (2%) will labour spontaneously between 42 weeks to 42 + 6 days. Most babies, if given a chance without routine induction at 41 weeks would probably arrive of their own accord. . . . . . #midwifery #birth #studentmidwives #childbirth #choice #decisions #informedisbest #evidencebasedpractice #professional #mums #healthcare #midwives #students #maternity #pregnancy #pregnantmoment #pregnantwomen #pregnancywork #labour #induction #preemie #preterm #nicu
