You may have noticed that your baby's head looks a funny shape after birth and may even be a little alarmed at this! . Babies have a 'soft spot' at the front of their heads which allows for the skull to be molded through the birth canal and also for rapid brain growth in infancy. If you noticed your baby's head looks a little elongated at birth, don't worry, it usually goes back to normal within 24 hours. . If you've had a ventouse suction delivery, your baby may have a large swollen lump on his head. Again don't be alarmed, it resolves very quickly, going down within 24 hours. . A forceps delivery doesn't necessarily change the shape of the baby's head but it can leave marks on the face. These bruises usually take a few days to disappear. Watch out for feeding issues with babies who are born via forceps. Soemtimes they can have a hard time latching on to the breast due to having a saw jaw. If this is the case, a paediatrician can prescribe calpol to help and a lactation consultant can help you with feeding positions that might be more comfortable for your baby. . . . . . . . . #doula #birth #midwifery #pregnancy #baby #nurse #love #newborn #waterbirth #breastfeeding #birthwithoutfear #nurses #birthphotography #rn #studentnurse #cna #lpn #mommy #beautiful #mumtobe #bhfyp #pregnantlife #parenting #preggo #gravida #maternidade #gestante #schwanger #embarazada #gravidez
