A year or so ago I watched a video by a midiwfe called Liz Chalmers who demonstrated how a cervix effaces (thins out) using just a balloon and a ping pong ball. I thought it was really effective so have decided to do an instapic version 😁 . So after squeezing the ball into the balloon, you can see that the cervix (spout of the balloon) is still long. Its not until I start to put pressure on the ballon, squeezing it from the top downwards (to simulate contractions) that the cervix starts to draw itself up as a result of the contractions and baby's head. Eventually the cervix totally thins out and looks like its actually part of the uterus! After effacement, the cervix will continue to dilate until the baby is ready to be born. Cool huh? . . . . . #healthymama #pregnancyeducation #hospitalbagready #pregnancy #healthypregnancy #induction #40weekspregnant #impregnant #pregnant #birthwithoutfear #40weeks #birthprep #thebump #hospitalbags #parentcraft #thisispostpostpartum #momblog #firsttimemommy #pregnancyblog #nursesofinstagram #childbirtheducation #laboranddeliverynurse #labor #9monthspregnant #firsttimemom #pregnantmom #birth #csectionscar #yoga
