After pains....one of childbirths lovely little surprises. That bitter sweet moment when you have just given birth to your beautiful baby, had your shower, something to eat and then you start to get what feels like period cramps - but 10 times worse. . This is basically your uterus trying to contract down to it's pre pregnancy state. It's often noticed more when breastfeeding as oxytocin is released which tell your uterus to start contracting. . You'll be pleased to know not everyone notices these contractions, espcially first time mothers. They tend to be something experienced by women who have had at least one natural birth. . After pains usually get worse with each baby and can last a good couple of days. Hot water bottles and mild painkillers can help as it can sometimes feel like you are in early labour again! I had to have oral morphine after the birth of my 5th baby in Jan to get me through the first few hours of it!! She was totally worth it though 😍
