Haemorrhoids also known as piles are swellings containing enlarged blood vessels inside or around the rectum and anus. You can get them at any time but they are pretty common in pregnancy because hormones make your veins relax. If you've managed to escape them in pregnancy, you may end up getting them postpartum as a result of pushing your baby out. Or you may just be lucky and not get them at all! Symptoms of piles can include:

itching, aching, soreness or swelling around your anus

pain when pooping and a mucus discharge afterwards

a lump hanging outside the anus, which may need to be pushed back in after passing a stool

bleeding after pooping the blood is usually bright red Constipation can cause haemorrhoids so be sure to have fibre in your diet and drink plenty of water. So what can you do to help eelieve the discomfort? use a cold wet cloth to and hold it against the area to soothes it.

if the piles stick out, push them gently back inside using a lubricating jelly

avoid straining when you go toilet as this may make them worse

after going to the toilet, clean the area with moist toilet paper instead of dry toilet paper

pat, rather than rub, the area

There are medicines that can help soothe the inflammation around your anus. These treat the symptoms, but not the cause, of piles. Ask your pharmacist or doctor for medication that might help. . . #pregnancyproblems #postpartum #pregnancytips #piles #postpartum tips #diet #health #pregnant
