MY BIRTH STORY. . I have decided to share my story of the birth of my 5th baby. After having a pregnancy that was classified as high risk due to previously having had a c-section and current gestational diabetes, I was induced at 38 weeks. . My labour was kicked off by simply performing an ARM (artificial rupture of membranes) at 11am. After the doctor broke my waters, I went off for a walk for a few hours and even popped home for lunch. Contractions started mildly a couple of hours later at about 2pm. By 3pm they were pretty strong and close together so I was put on a continuous monitor because of the fact I had a scar on my uterus from the c-section so there was a slight (about 1 in 200) chance of a rupture. By 4.30 I was in transition, approaching fully dilated and I knew baby would be born soon as this is when I began to ask for an epidural which I didn't really want (and didnt get in the end) . The doctors and midwives reviewed the heart monitor and decided it would be best to take me into the surgical theatre as they were concerned about the frequency of contractions and the baby's heartbeat and thought I may need assistance. In the theatre I basically got on the table and pushed out a baby myself after a few minutes at 5.15pm! She weighed 7lb 15oz and I had no tears at all. . I was informed and supported throughout my experience and was able to make decisions for myself even though I was deemed high risk. This enabled me to adopt whatever position I felt comfortable with in labour and have the choice as to whether or not the oxytocun drip was started immediately or later (didnt need it at all in the end) This shows that in many cases, high risk births and inductions can still be positive birth experiences. Get the birth team that will support you with making informed choices around your birth ❤ P.s the reason I am so flat on my back to give birth is because they were probably about to perform a c-section. I remember asking"why am I so flat on my back?" Then I just pushed and out she came 😁
