On Tuesday I was invited to 10 Downing St. with a few other health professionals to gather our thoughts on the new plan for the NHS.

You may have seen in the news this morning that they are proposing a 15 year plan for training, retention, and reform.

This includes doubling medical student places and increasing nursing & midwifery places by 24,000. This is the target for 2031 and the government has pledged £2.4b to get this in place.

We shared our experiences and those of our colleagues whose morale is at an all-time low. We had questions about the plan and how it would look in practice.

The government spoke about retention and proposed additional childcare, more attractive pensions, better CPD support, and OH support for staff.

Increasing patient safety and improving workplace conditions are priorities. Hopefully, this plan will be the starting point to do just that. It doesn't end there though.

Next step is increasing pay and making these training programmes accessible and affordable for those who want to join the NHS.

What are your thoughts on the new plan?
