It's really important that you pee after the birth of your baby before being discharged from the hospital or birth centre. Some women can develop urinary retention so as soon as you are able to get up your midwife or nurse will ask you to let them know when you have been. They may give you a container to pee in so it can be measured. . If you have had an epidural and /or catheter, it's even more important that you pee as you probably wont have done by yourself for a while! . If it's been a few hours since you gave birth and have been drinking or had fluids running through an IV but havent passed urine, be sure to let your care provider know if they havent checked.
Quick tip: if you are worried about stinging when you first go due to stitches, pop some warm water in a jug/cup/ peri bottle and pour over your bits (vulva/perineal area) as you are peeing. It will help to reduce any discomfort . . . . . . . #postpartum #postpartumhealth #bladder #bladdercare #pelvicfloor #pregnancy #birth #pregnant #midwife
